Privacy Policy

The short version.Tapatize doesn’t require an account, name, or email. We don’t track you across the internet, we don’t sell data, and we don’t run ads. A session uses a temporary anonymous ID and the food ideas people type in — never tied to a name or account. That’s it.

1. Who we are

Tapatize (“Tapatize,” “we,” “us”) provides a mobile app and website that let a group make a food decision together: someone starts a session, others join by QR code or link, everyone anonymously submits a food idea, and one is picked at random. This policy explains what limited information the service handles.

2. Information we collect

We designed Tapatize to work without knowing who you are. We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, photos, contacts, or precise location. We do not require you to create an account.

To run a live session, the service temporarily processes:

A temporary anonymous session identifier — a randomly generated ID assigned to your device for the duration of a session. It is not linked to your real identity.
The food idea you submit— the free text you type in (for example, “tacos” or “surprise me”). Submissions are shown to the group without any name attached.
Basic session data — the session code, the expected group size, join and submission timestamps, and which idea was selected, so the round can be coordinated in real time.

Because the app is anonymous, we cannot tell which person submitted which idea.

3. Information we do not collect

No accounts, logins, passwords, or profiles.
No names, emails, or phone numbers.
No precise or background location.
No advertising identifiers, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
No sale or sharing of personal information for advertising.

4. How we use information

The limited data above is used solely to operate the service: to create and join sessions, count participants in real time, display submitted ideas to the group, select a winner, and keep the app functioning and secure. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

5. How long we keep it

Sessions are anonymous by design — no name, email, or account is ever attached to session data. We are working toward automatic deletion of session data shortly after a session ends; that isn’t live yet, so session records may currently persist on our servers longer than intended. We do not use this data for anything beyond running that one session, and we do not maintain a long-term history of your food choices.

6. Service providers

We use trusted infrastructure providers to host the app and its real-time backend, including Supabase (database and realtime), and cloud hosting/DNS providers for our website. These providers process data only to store and transmit session information on our behalf and are bound by their own security and privacy commitments. We do not sell your data to anyone.

7. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Because sessions are anonymous and short-lived, there is very little personal information to protect in the first place. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the minimal data involved.

8. Children’s privacy

Tapatize is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app does not collect names, emails, or accounts, it is not designed to identify or profile any user, including minors.

9. Your choices & rights

Because we don’t hold accounts or identifiable profiles, there is generally no personal data tied to you for us to retrieve, correct, or delete. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights regarding personal information. If you have a question or request, contact us and we’ll do our best to help, keeping in mind the anonymous nature of the service.

10. International users

Tapatize may be operated from, and use providers located in, the United States and other countries. By using the service you understand that limited session data may be processed in those locations.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the “Effective date” above and post the new version here. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
